A close look at history will tell that women have always been at the forefront of technological innovation. Women like Ada Lovelace, Margaret Hamilton, and Hedy Lamarr have helped bring technology to where it is today. However, the role of women in both the development and use of technology is often ignored and forgotten, buried beneath a popular narrative of technology as a man’s world. This is why Take Back the Tech aims to surface real stories of women using various forms of technology today - whether to counter violence, or to achieve economic stability or independence, or simply to live a safe and fruitful life. The photo shows women in the Philippines doing exactly that: taking back the tech and using it to lead meaningful lives.
