Day 13 | Explore the internet | Search everywhere

If you use the internet regularly, chances are, you will be searching for information using either Google, Yahoo!, Bing or ASK. Google is by far the most widely used internet search engine all over the world. This also means that these search engines are effectively the primary gate keepers of content we find online. Iit's worth reminding ourselves that we don't have to be limited to the gatekeepers we are used to all the time. We can explore  many other ways of categorising and presenting the wealth of information available, and we don't necessarily need to place all of our trust in one particular corporation. Chart a different journey into the world wide web.

Day 9: Break barriers | Translate and network!

Many times we stay within the boundaries of what – and with whom – we are comfortable. Culture, race, class, sexual preference, religion. The language we speak is part of that familiarity. It frames and reflects our lives. Perhaps we avoid going to spaces where we can't speak the language because we don't feel safe. Today's action invites you to take advantage of translation tools on the internet to learn about activism against violence in cultures and languages different than our own, networking to end violence.

Be Heard – Tell Your Story

A study
based based on 50 surveys from around the world shows that
at least 1 in every 3 women has been beaten, coerced into
sex, or abused in her lifetime.

Depressing statistics.
But at the same time, think of all the women that you know.
Grrls and women that you have chatted with on the bus, at
some party, waiting for the elevator, at a work function,
distant relatives, their partners…. There are so many
survivors amongst us.

Change the homepage of computers in internet of cyber cafés

  • Go to an internet or
    cyber café
  • Internet or cyber cafes
are places where people can go and use computers
with internet access for a certain fee.
  • Users include travelers,
young people, or people located in areas where it
is not cost-effective to have internet access in
    the home.
  • Find a cyber café
near where you live, and invite their many users
to think about violence against women instead.
  • Change the first thing
